Mission Edge · San Diego, CA · Full-Time, Exempt · Hybrid
The Role
Mission Edge is looking for a purpose-driven, highly organized People & Impact Partner to join our growing team. This role is a true hybrid — sitting at the intersection of Human Resources and Corporate Social Responsibility — and is designed for someone who thrives across varied, mission-aligned work.
On the HR side, this person will serve as an HR Business Partner to Mission Edge’s nonprofit and social enterprise clients, providing generalist support across the full employee lifecycle. On the CSR side, they will be embedded in the operations of a major corporate foundation client, helping to design, manage, and execute employee giving, volunteer, and community impact programs at a global scale.
This person will also play a key role in executing Mission Edge’s own signature internal and external events — including our annual company retreat and our community-facing Impact & Inspire event — under the direction and oversight of the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO).
This is a full-time, exempt, hybrid position based in San Diego, CA. The role requires on-site presence at client locations (including the corporate foundation client one to two days per week), regular time at the Mission Edge office, and occasional attendance at volunteer events, community programs, and Mission Edge events. Reliable transportation and the ability to commute within San Diego County are required.
Key Responsibilities
HR Client Services
• Provide HR generalist support to Mission Edge’s nonprofit and small business clients, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, benefits administration, and compliance.
• Assist clients in ensuring full compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws, with particular attention to California employment regulations.
• Develop and refine job descriptions, employee handbooks, performance review processes, and HR policies for client organizations.
• Support full-cycle recruiting and onboarding processes for client organizations as needed.
• Deliver training and development programs for client employees.
• Administer employee benefits for clients, including claims resolution, open enrollment support, and benefits communications.
• Implement and manage HRIS systems and other HR technology solutions on behalf of clients.
• Oversee and resolve employee relations matters to a satisfactory conclusion.
• Establish and maintain systems and processes for accurate personnel record-keeping and documentation.
• Conduct HR risk assessments and implement risk mitigation strategies.
• Represent Mission Edge with professionalism, warmth, and a service-first mindset in all client engagements.
CSR Client Services & Program Execution
• Support the operations of a corporate foundation client, including employee giving programs, volunteer initiatives, and community engagement efforts with a global reach.
• Design and build operational systems, frameworks, and toolkits that enable partner sites globally to manage CSR programs with consistency, quality, and reduced centralized dependency.
• Serve as a strategic thought partner to the client team — helping to shape program structures, identify gaps, and translate organizational goals into actionable workflows.
• Project manage and execute employee volunteering activities — from coordinating logistics to communicating with participants and tracking engagement outcomes.
• Manage workflows related to employee giving campaigns, including committee coordination, communications, and event logistics.
• Serve as a reliable, organized point of contact for program logistics and day-to-day operational needs.
• Be on-site at the client location one to two days per week and attend occasional in-person volunteer and community events.
Program & Project Management
• Manage competing timelines across multiple concurrent programs and client engagements with a high degree of organization and follow-through.
• Maintain accurate collateral, data, and documentation within shared platforms (Google Drive, Microsoft Office tools, HRIS systems).
• Track and report engagement and program metrics back to client teams.
• Anticipate logistical needs and proactively solve problems before they escalate.
• Collaborate with the Mission Edge team to monitor and achieve short- and long-term client goals aligned with service proposals and client-specific needs.
Mission Edge Internal Events (under direction of the CHRO)
This role plays a central part in executing Mission Edge’s signature organizational events, working closely with and under the oversight of the Chief Human Resources Officer.
• Lead day-to-day planning, coordination, and execution of Mission Edge’s annual company retreat, including venue logistics, agenda development support, vendor coordination, communications, and on-site management.
• Serve as the primary operational coordinator for Mission Edge’s Impact & Inspire event — the organization’s flagship community-facing gathering — managing logistics, partner and vendor relationships, event communications, and on-site execution.
• Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, and budgets for both events, providing regular status updates to the CHRO.
• Coordinate with internal team members, external vendors, community partners, and sponsors to ensure smooth event delivery.
• Capture post-event data and feedback to inform future planning and continuous improvement.
Mission Edge Internal Contribution
• Contribute to internal Mission Edge projects and initiatives as needed, including support for additional HR and CSR client engagements.
• Actively engage in staff meetings, team planning, and professional development opportunities.
• Uphold Mission Edge values and represent the organization with professionalism, authenticity, and purpose.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Highly organized with strong project management skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines across multiple clients and programs simultaneously.
• Systems thinker — able to look at a program or process and design scalable structures, toolkits, and frameworks that others can implement independently.
• Strong working knowledge of local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations, with specific expertise in California employment law.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; professional, warm, and audience-aware.
• Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid, client-embedded environment.
• Proactive and solutions-oriented — demonstrates initiative and follows through consistently.
• Strong interpersonal skills; able to build trust with client stakeholders, employees, and community partners.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding personnel and client information.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and HRIS/payroll systems (e.g., ADP Run, Gusto, Paylocity, BambooHR).
• Ethical, accountable, and genuinely aligned with Mission Edge’s mission and values.
Background & Experience
• A minimum of 5–7 years of progressive, relevant experience across HR and/or CSR/social impact work.
• At least 2–3 years in an HR Generalist or HR Business Partner capacity; experience supporting nonprofit or social enterprise clients strongly preferred.
• Experience in corporate social responsibility, employee engagement, volunteer management, or community impact programs is highly valued.
• A valid PHR, PHR-CA, SHRM-CP, or equivalent HR certification is preferred; candidates without certification must obtain it within six months of hire.
• Event coordination or event management experience is a plus.
• A bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required. What matters most is your track record of getting things done with care, professionalism, and purpose.
What Success Looks Like
• Clients and employees rave about your exceptional HR support and trust you to meet their needs with excellence.
• CSR programs run smoothly and at scale — with the frameworks you’ve built reducing the need for centralized support over time.
• Mission Edge’s annual events are executed flawlessly and leave lasting impressions on staff and community alike.
• You proactively identify opportunities to improve processes and systems, confidently sharing and implementing ideas.
• You thrive as a team player, embracing open, positive, and constructive communication as a cornerstone of the Mission Edge team.

• Competitive compensation commensurate with experience.
• Paid vacation, sick time, and holidays.
• A paid day off for your birthday.
• Paid volunteer time off.
• Cell phone and internet stipend.
